To combat this, email authentication protocols were developed:<\/p><p><strong>SPF (Sender Policy Framework)<\/strong> allowed servers to verify if the sender\u2019s server was authorized to send emails for a specific domain.<br \/><strong>DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail)<\/strong> added a digital signature to verify that an email hadn\u2019t been tampered with during transmission.<br \/><strong>DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance)<\/strong> combined SPF and DKIM, allowing domain owners to prevent email spoofing and phishing. These protocols significantly improved the security and reliability of SMTP.<\/p><p><strong>SMTP Today<\/strong><br \/>Today, SMTP remains the backbone of email communication. Even with the rise of <strong>instant messaging<\/strong> and <strong>social media<\/strong>, email continues to be crucial for personal and professional exchanges. While <strong>ESMTP<\/strong> is now the standard, SMTP&#8217;s basic functionality has largely remained unchanged.
