For many companies, this meant\nadapting Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) to match new security requirements.\nGDPR compliance has since improved personal data security for EU citizens, and\nfines for violations have kept data processors diligent.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">But now,\nthe EU has developed additional directives to further strengthen cybersecurity.\nThe latest, NIS2, stands for the Network and Information Security Directive.\nNIS2, originally initiated in 2016 as a response to increasing cyber threats,\nwill now be enforced by July 2025 in various sectors. This directive will\nrequire stricter cybersecurity standards, particularly for sectors deemed\ncritical to society, such as energy, transport, healthcare, and finance, where\nservice disruptions or cyberattacks could have serious consequences.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><span lang=\"EN-US\">The\nScope and Compliance Process<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Several EU\ncountries have already implemented NIS2, the NIS2 compliance deadline is now\nset for July 2025 after earlier delays.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">For large,\nhigh-priority companies, meeting compliance standards will be a lengthy\nprocess. The compliance journey will include substantial documentation,\ndescribing and detailing security processes. Outdated IT systems will face\nparticular scrutiny, while compliance-oriented industries rush to offer the\nbest solutions, from high-cost audit and consultancy packages to more\naccessible, template-based, self-managed online systems. Searching &#8220;NIS2\ncompliance&#8221; online brings up a long list of providers, showcasing the\nstrong demand for compliance solutions.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Whether or\nnot a company falls under NIS2 may also be dictated by its clients. Some\nbusinesses are required to ensure the full chain of data processing is\ncompliant.
